FILMMAKER

 

Baayan Bakari began making films while attending UC Berkeley, where he studied Political Economy of Industrialized Societies and Theatre. He has also studied media programming and sociology at San Jose State University, directing at the Film Arts Foundation, and editing at Laney College. Baayan sees his film work as being intimately connected to his love for humanity. He believes in the power of the moving image as a major source of not only entertainment, but inspiration.

 

Baayan has dedicated his life to producing images that are not only highly entertaining, suspenseful, passionate, comical, but also meaningful. His feature film EQUINOX: BOYS ARE BORN, BUT MEN ARE MADE was the Opening Night Film at Oakland International Film Festival and distributed by Akoben Entertainment and even made its debut in Ghana, West Africa! His feature film before that was entitled CONVICTIONS and was an Official Selection of the Hollywood Black Film Festival. He has written twelve feature length scripts, and has produced and directed four of them. He has also directed music videos for numerous artists, produced industrial and promotional videos and shot some short films.
